Nairobi, June 16- Three civilians who were held at Nairobi’s Central Police Station on the night blogger Albert Ojwang died have now been arrested in connection with his death.

The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) reports that the suspects were allegedly directed by police officers to assault and torture Ojwang while he was in custody, leading to his death.

Though the initial reasons for their arrest remain unclear, the trio was reportedly released soon after Ojwang died. Following further investigation by IPOA, they were re-arrested on Sunday and are now being held at separate police stations—Kilimani, Muthangari, and Kileleshwa.

According to their lawyer, the three had previously been detained under a miscellaneous application and held for five days before being released without charges.

They are expected to appear in court on Monday alongside the Central Police Station’s Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Samson Taalam, who is currently detained at Lang’ata Police Station.

Meanwhile, IPOA is still searching for two officers seen on CCTV transporting Ojwang to Mbagathi Hospital. One of them has been identified as Deputy OCS Samuel Ng’ang’a, who was reportedly on duty the night Ojwang died.

IPOA has also confirmed it has obtained key CCTV footage for the case, though some clips appear to have been tampered with—raising suspicions of a cover-up. Investigators are now analyzing over 36 hours of surveillance to piece together the events before and after Ojwang’s death.
