Nairobi, July 15 – Zachariah Kariuki, better known as KK Mwenyewe, was a popular Kenyan comedian whose clever impersonations of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made him an internet sensation. His untimely death after a brief illness has left fans mourning the loss of a rising star.

KK died on July 14, 2025, at Kiambu Level 4 Hospital. His passing was confirmed by fellow comedian and close friend Kafengo, who paid tribute saying, “Rest in peace brother, you will forever be in our hearts.”

KK gained national attention in 2022 for his sharp political satire, perfectly mimicking Gachagua’s distinct mannerisms. His fame grew rapidly, especially during the early days of the Kenya Kwanza government. Many had hoped Gachagua would support him the same way he had embraced Ivy Chelimo, who coined the “Riggy G” nickname, but KK had previously said that recognition never came.

In recent times, KK branched out beyond political skits, creating short comedy videos and collaborating with other online creators.

His sudden passing sparked tributes from across the country. Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah described him as “a brave, young patriot” who used satire to educate and unite society. Others, like X personality Sholla Ard, questioned the growing cases of “short illnesses” among young people, while Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro called KK’s death “tragic and sudden,” mourning the loss of an extraordinary talent.

KK Mwenyewe had built a loyal online fanbase, amassing over a million followers and millions of views on TikTok. His last video, a light-hearted skit about job hunting, was posted on July 4, 2025.

Though his life was cut short, KK Mwenyewe’s humor, creativity and unique voice will be remembered for years to come.
