Nairobi, September 30- A day after hundreds of Kenyans turned up at the home of content creator Vincent Kaluma, popularly known as Kaluma Boy, his mother has spoken out with gratitude for the support extended to her family.
In an emotional interview, Beatrice Wangechi praised Kenyans for rallying behind them, describing the response as nothing short of miraculous.
“I saw wonders I have never seen before. You even wonder if it is miracles,” she said, overcome with emotion.
Wangechi admitted that her perspective on mobile phones had completely changed after witnessing how her son’s Tittok videos attracted nationwide attention and help.
“For me, a phone was only for calling and receiving calls. I didn’t know it could change lives. I used to scold him for being on his phone, but he stayed focused,” she recalled, adding that her son would calmly continue with his work whenever she urged him to find a “real job.”
Kaluma Boy has been documenting his father’s struggles after suffering a stroke in August 2024, sharing clips of his caregiving journey and the family’s financial challenges. On Sunday, his story moved Kenyans to action as hundreds arrived at his home in buses, carrying food, money, and other donations for medical bills.
Speaking after the fundraiser, Kaluma Boy also expressed heartfelt appreciation. “I thank Kenyans for supporting me. On behalf of my family, we are grateful. May God bless you,” he said, noting that the contributions would greatly assist in securing physiotherapy treatment for his bedridden father.
The show of solidarity has since drawn widespread praise online, with many hailing it as proof of the positive power of social media to unite people in times of need.
