Nairobi, October 15- Top Kenyan leaders have joined the nation in mourning the death of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, paying tribute to his lifelong dedication to justice, unity, and democracy.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja described Raila as a mentor and guiding figure who inspired many in public service. “Baba was more than a political figure; he was a mentor, a guide, and an enduring source of inspiration for me and many of us serving in public life today,” Sakaja said. He lauded Raila’s commitment to justice and devolution, noting that his courage and vision for a better Kenya strengthened the nation’s democratic foundations.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua also sent heartfelt messages of condolence to Mama Ida Odinga and the Odinga family.
Karua, who leads the People’s Liberation Party, said she received the news of Raila’s death “with deep shock and profound sadness,” calling it a personal and national tragedy. “Please accept my heartfelt condolences, and those of many who stand with you, your family, the people of Kenya, our continent of Africa, and indeed humanity at large,” she said.
Chief Justice Martha Koome joined in mourning Raila, describing him as a patriot whose love for Kenya transcended politics. “Kenya has lost a statesman whose name is forever etched in the annals of our democratic journey,” Koome said, expressing “profound sorrow and deep sadness” at his passing.
She extended her condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, the Odinga family, and all Kenyans, saying, “We share in your grief and join the nation in mourning the loss of one of Kenya’s most enigmatic and consequential leaders.”
Together, the leaders hailed Raila Odinga as a towering statesman — a man of resilience, courage, and purpose — whose legacy will continue to inspire Kenya’s pursuit of justice, equality, and national unity.
