Nairobi, January 21- Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has unveiled the first batch of candidates under his newly formed National Economic Development Party (NEDP), marking the party’s official entry into ongoing by-election campaigns across the country.
During the launch, Sonko issued nomination certificates to the candidates, signalling NEDP’s readiness to compete in the by-elections and test its political strength at the grassroots level. Among those nominated is Isack Fayo, who will vie for the Isiolo South parliamentary seat. Other candidates include George Mukhwana for the West Kabras MCA seat in Malava Constituency, Cosmas Njeru for Muminji Ward, and Martin Mukundi for Evurore Ward, both in Mbeere North Constituency.
Sonko dismissed claims that the party is backed by external forces, insisting that NEDP is a locally driven movement built on grassroots support. He assured the candidates of full party backing and outlined a campaign strategy centred on direct engagement with voters, including door-to-door mobilization.
NEDP, which was officially registered in December 2025, is positioning itself as a party focused on economic empowerment, unity and people-centered leadership. With its first candidates now on the campaign trail, the party is looking to build momentum ahead of future electoral contests.
