Nairobi, September 25- Missing activist Muteti Mulinge has been found in the Lukenya area, according to Vocal Africa director Hussein Khalid.
Khalid said Mulinge was reportedly found at around 3am after allegedly being left in the area. The activist is said to have walked for some distance before reaching a petrol station, where a Good Samaritan helped him access a phone.
He then contacted his brother and informed his family of his whereabouts.
According to Khalid, Mulinge was disoriented, weak and injured when he was found. He was later taken to Sanel Hospital in Mlolongo, where he is receiving treatment.
His family, friends and fellow activists were expected to visit him at the hospital following news that he had been located.
The circumstances surrounding Mulinge’s disappearance and how he ended up in Lukenya remain unclear, while details about the extent of his injuries had not been established.
His disappearance had prompted concern among his family and human rights defenders, who reported the matter to police and called for efforts to establish his whereabouts.
On Thursday, a petition was filed at the Milimani Law Courts seeking orders requiring Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin to account for Mulinge’s whereabouts.
The petition also sought information on whether he had been arrested, detained, transferred, released or otherwise processed by authorities.
