Nairobi, October 6- The Ministry of Health has identified 28 people who came into contact with Kenya’s first confirmed Ebola patient, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said.
The contacts include family members of the deceased and healthcare workers who attended to him while he was ill.
Authorities are also tracing 23 passengers and four crew members who travelled on the same flight as the patient as part of efforts to prevent further transmission.
The patient, a Kenyan national who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, arrived in Nairobi on Saturday after travelling from Uganda.
He was taken directly from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Nairobi Hospital, where he was isolated and later tested positive for Ebola after presenting with several symptoms, including fever, fatigue, muscle pain, sore throat and bleeding under the skin.
Despite receiving supportive treatment, the patient died at around 11:30pm on Monday. Authorities are preparing for a safe and dignified burial in line with Ebola public health protocols.
