Nairobi, October 21-Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has been discharged from Nairobi Hospital after spending about two weeks receiving medical care.

Oburu was reportedly admitted on October 4 and discharged on October 19, following a hospital stay that sparked public concern and speculation about his health.

The 83-year-old politician was last seen in public on October 15, when images of him celebrating his birthday in hospital emerged. The date also marked one year since the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Reflecting on the coincidence, Oburu shared an emotional message describing the day as a significant moment that brought together his birthday and the anniversary of Raila’s death. He said their bond remained strong despite his brother’s passing.

His hospitalisation had generated widespread discussion on social media, particularly ahead of events commemorating Raila’s first death anniversary.

Oburu had previously dismissed claims that he was critically ill, explaining that an earlier hospital visit was for a routine medical check-up. He also criticised speculation about his health and reassured the public that he would communicate openly if his condition became serious.

His discharge comes as ODM continues to navigate its leadership and political direction following Raila’s death, with the party preparing for the 2027 General Election.
