Nairobi, Kenya, January 8- The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) has announced an increase in the cost of DNA identification tests, raising the fee from Sh20,000 to Sh27,000, effective January 2025.
In a statement, KEMRI informed customers of the new pricing, citing it as a marginal adjustment. “We wish to inform our valued customers of a marginal price adjustment for the DNA Testing Service from Sh20,000 to Sh27,000 starting this January 2025. Thank you for your continued support,” the statement read.
The tests are conducted at the KEMRI Human DNA Identification Laboratory, commonly known as the HID laboratory. These DNA tests can be carried out for legal purposes or personal knowledge, depending on the individual’s needs.
Testing Options and Sample Types
While saliva samples are commonly used for DNA testing, the procedure can also utilize a variety of tissues, including blood, nails, bones, teeth, and hair. The choice of method often depends on the intended use of the test results.
