Nairobi, Kenya, January 13- Car dealer and entrepreneur Khalif Cairo has broken his silence following his recent arrest, during which he spent two days in custody at the Capital Hill Police Station.
The arrest stemmed from an incident reportedly involving a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer and a client. Cairo alleges that influential individuals are exploiting their connections within law enforcement to frustrate him and tarnish his reputation.
“After my altercation on Saturday at Nairobi Area Police with a DCI officer and a client determined to humiliate me by secretly recording videos of my arrest and interrogation for circulation through paid bloggers, I refused to ‘negotiate’ a quick settlement. Instead, I insisted on being presented in court,” Cairo stated.
He expressed frustration over what he described as weeks of harassment and maintained that the issues he is facing are commercial rather than criminal in nature. Cairo attributed the challenges to the broader economic struggles currently affecting business owners across the country.
“I will appear in court at the Milimani Law Courts shortly. I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support, messages of hope, prayers, and goodwill I have received from the public. May God bless you all,” he said. “I remain strong and committed to resolving any pending issues, and I believe this is a phase we will overcome as a company.”
Cairo’s case underscores the growing tension between business owners and law enforcement, particularly in challenging economic times.
