Nairobi, February 7- Nyali MP Mohamed Ali has paid tribute to veteran journalist Leonard Mambo Mbotela, remembering him as a disciplined and dedicated broadcaster who left an indelible mark on Kenya’s media industry.
Ali first met Mbotela in 2002 while interning at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). Their professional paths crossed again in 2010 when Ali, then an investigative journalist at KTN, interviewed Mbotela about the 1982 coup—an event that cemented the broadcaster’s place in Kenya’s history.
“He was disciplined, hardworking, and committed to his craft,” Ali said. “I admired his work ethic and punctuality. He was always in the studio at his designated time—never late.”
Mbotela, whose deep baritone became the voice of Kenya’s triumphs and tragedies for decades, passed away on Friday, February 7, after a short illness. His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from journalists, politicians, and admirers who credit him with inspiring generations and upholding the highest standards of journalism.
