Nairobi, June 11- Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi has issued an emotional update following his recent appeal to help Meshack Opiyo, the father of the late Albert Ojwang.
On Tuesday, Omondi turned to his dedicated online fanbase, popularly known as Team Sisi Kwa Sisi, urging them to financially support Baba Albert and the response was almost instant.
In just 11 minutes after the post went live, Opiyo’s M-Pesa account hit its maximum holding limit, forcing the team to provide an alternative number to continue receiving contributions.
“I’m truly grateful for the incredible show of love and support for Albert’s family,” said Omondi. “Only 11 minutes after the initial post, the phone receiving funds was already full. May God bless you all! If you’re still looking to contribute, we now have an additional number 0113664965 (MESHACK OPIYO). You can also use the Pochi la Biashara option on 0727927898, still under the name Meshack Opiyo. Thank you and God bless 🙏.”
For reference, M-Pesa accounts can hold up to KSh 500,000, with a daily transaction cap of the same amount and a per-transaction limit of KSh 250,000.
Omondi’s fundraising efforts began shortly after he viewed Ojwang’s body at City Mortuary a moment that moved him deeply.
“How many more must we bury?” he wrote in a heartfelt plea. “Let’s stand with Baba Albert. Albert has left behind a 3-year-old son. We must make sure this child is never in want. Let him grow up knowing his father was a hero. You can send your support to 0727927898 (NAME: MESHACK OPIYO).”
Meanwhile, a post-mortem conducted on Tuesday revealed that Albert Ojwang died from blunt force trauma to the head, neck compression, and multiple soft tissue injuries—all pointing to a violent assault.
These findings sharply contrasting with an earlier police report that suggested Ojwang’s death in custody was self inflicted.
