Nairobi, July 28- Tension ensued at Senteu Plaza in Kilimani after police and boda boda riders swarmed the premises following a dramatic ruling by the Business Premises Rent Tribunal (BPRT)

Tribunal Judge Hon. Cyprian Mugambi ruled that businessman Chris Obure was unlawfully evicted from the property by Ajeetkumar C. Shah and ordered his immediate reinstatement. The legal dispute revolves around the sale and ownership of the high-value commercial property, for which Obure reportedly paid Kshs. 1.3 billion. The matter was filed under case numbers BPRT/E178/2025 and BPRT/E553/2025.

In his ruling, Judge Mugambi declared that Obure’s eviction was illegal and instructed the Kilimani OCS to facilitate his return to the building.

Obure, operating through his company SBS Dunhill East Africa Limited, had been evicted from the building’s first floor two months prior. The former property owners, led by Pankaj Shah, claimed Obure’s lease had expired on August 31, 2023, but failed to disclose that the agreement was actually a lease-to-own arrangement.

Obure insists he had already begun the process of acquiring the property and accused Pankaj of dishonest dealings during the transaction.

The tribunal has now closed the case.
