Nairobi, August 13- The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a fine of KSh6.45 million (USD 50,000) on Kenya over safety and security breaches during a CHAN (African Nations Championship) qualifier against Morocco at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
According to a statement from CAF’s Disciplinary Board, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) violated several safety and security rules during the TotalEnergies CHAN fixture, prompting concerns about crowd control and stadium safety.
“The Disciplinary Board found Kenya guilty and fined them USD 50,000. Kenya has been warned that repeated failure to comply with CAF’s safety and security standards could lead to their national team’s home matches being moved to another venue,” the statement read.
CAF directed FKF to implement urgent corrective actions, including deploying adequate security personnel inside and outside the stadium and enforcing strict road closures on match days.
Other sanctions from the board included a KSh650,000 (USD 5,000) fine for the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) for breaching Media Regulations after failing to present their head coach at the mandatory pre-match press conference before their game against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) was also fined USD 5,000 (KSh650,000) for their players’ misconduct during Morocco’s clash with Kenya. However, half of this amount—USD 2,500 (KSh325,000)—is suspended, provided no similar offences occur for the rest of CHAN 2024.
CAF confirmed that all fines must be paid within 60 days of receiving the decision.
