Nairobi, August 13- To enhance safety and improve the match-day experience while meeting CAF sanctions, the government has set up six official fan zones for the Harambee Stars’ upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) clash against Zambia on Sunday.

The zones, placed in various city neighborhoods, aim to give fans an alternative place to watch the game while reducing crowd congestion at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, announced the fan zone locations as:

  • Uhuru Park (CBD)
  • Lucky Summer-Ngomo area (behind Kasarani Stadium)
  • Dandora Stadium
  • Utalii (Stima Club)
  • Jacaranda Grounds
  • Kibera DC Grounds

“These fan zones will recreate the stadium atmosphere for the public while helping us control attendance at Kasarani in line with CAF regulations,” said Mvurya.

The initiative comes after CAF limited attendance for the match to 27,000 fans—about 60% of Kasarani’s capacity—following repeated safety and security violations in previous CHAN games, which have cost the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Sh9 million in fines.

Additional security officers will be deployed to protect fans, players, and officials at the stadium. Entry will only be allowed for spectators with valid electronic tickets, as CAF has banned thermal paper tickets.

Mvurya cautioned supporters against buying counterfeit tickets, stressing that only digital purchases will grant access. He also urged fans to maintain discipline, pointing out that good behavior is vital for Kenya’s bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“I call on Kenyans to turn up and cheer Harambee Stars in an orderly manner,” he warned, noting that persistent security lapses could see future matches moved to co-hosts Tanzania and Uganda.
