Nairobi, September 2- Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has become one of Kenya’s most talked-about politicians, known both for her bold political stands and her outspoken advocacy for women’s rights. In a candid interview on Obinna Show Live with host Oga Obinna, she shared her personal journey, her fight against period stigma, and reflections on some of Kenya’s most heated political moments.

On the 2024 Gen Z protests against the controversial Finance Bill, Orwoba admitted to mixed emotions.

“We were so happy for the Gen Z protests; tulikuwa tumechoka (we were tired). Of course, we weren’t happy about being attacked personally, but we were happy for the movement,” she said.

The demonstrations, which rallied young Kenyans against new taxes including levies on sanitary pads aligned closely with her push for accessible menstrual products. She also revealed regret over supporting the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying,

“I regret impeaching Riggy G.”

Addressing the internet shutdowns during the protests, she dismissed claims of fake news and urged leaders to listen to public voices:

“Both upcoming and established politicians need to hear the voices on the ground.”

Her remarks came just days after a tense standoff at Parliament. On Tuesday, Orwoba clashed with security officers who blocked her entry into the Senate, where she had gone to present documents affirming her reinstatement. She accused them of acting on political orders, insisting she had legally resumed her role following a tribunal ruling that overturned her expulsion from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
