Nairobi, October 3 – Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has vowed to restore order in the capital, warning that lawlessness will no longer be tolerated.
Speaking during the Jukwaa La Usalama Nairobi Edition, Sakaja said all sectors—including nightclubs, boda boda operators, hawkers, and garbage collectors—must comply with the law for the city to function effectively.
On boda bodas, Sakaja urged riders to follow traffic rules, assuring that those who comply will not face harassment. He also announced a crackdown on illegal billboards erected under political protection, promising their removal from major roads.
The Governor singled out illegal waste dumping by rogue garbage collectors, saying their licenses will be revoked and number plates seized in collaboration with NTSA. He noted that the county has employed 4,000 Green Army staff, acquired new garbage trucks, and signed a waste-to-energy deal expected to generate 45MW of power. Additionally, 10 percent of water bills will fund the Green Nairobi Company Limited to enhance waste collection.
While recognizing hawkers’ right to earn a living, the Governor insisted they must operate within designated spaces and times to avoid disrupting businesses and blocking pavements. He further called for respect towards public officers, warning against attacks on county workers.
Sakaja said the county is investing in infrastructure across all 85 wards, including roads, drainage, and walkways, to improve service delivery and restore order in the city.
