Nairobi, October 6- The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of continued rainfall across several parts of the country, with heavy downpours and strong winds expected in the coming days.

According to the latest advisory issued on Sunday, October 6, rainfall ranging between 20mm and 50mm within 24 hours is forecast over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, Nairobi, the Coastal Region, and parts of the central and southern Rift Valley.

The department cautioned that the rains may cause flooding, even in areas where no rainfall is recorded, especially downstream. Residents are urged to stay alert, avoid flooded roads and rivers, and exercise caution when travelling, as flash floods and poor visibility pose serious risks.

Kenyans are also advised to monitor official weather updates and take precautions, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone regions.

The short rains season, which runs from October to December, has begun bringing much-needed relief for farmers but also heightening flood risks in urban centres like Nairobi due to poor drainage. The advisory remains in effect throughout the week, with updates to follow as conditions change.
