Nairobi October 13- George Oduor, the driver of Kibra MP Peter Orero, appeared before Milimani Magistrate Rose Ndombi on Monday, where he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and asked the court for leniency.

Oduor admitted to overtaking in traffic, explaining that he was rushing to the airport. “I am a first-time offender, and I will not repeat the mistake,” he told the court.

His court appearance followed public outrage after a viral video captured by CNN journalist Larry Madowo showed Oduor confronting the reporter during the incident. In the clip, Oduor dismissively told Madowo to “take it up with President Ruto,” sparking criticism online over arrogance and abuse of privilege by drivers linked to public officials.

The National Police Service (NPS) later condemned such conduct, stressing that only emergency and high-level government convoys such as those for the President and Deputy President are allowed to obstruct traffic.

Traffic Police Commandant Fredrick Ochieng’ also noted that an investigation is underway into another vehicle allegedly using fake diplomatic plates, reflecting broader concerns about road misuse and impersonation.

In court, Oduor appeared wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, concealing his face from cameras a stark contrast to his earlier defiant demeanor in the viral video.

Magistrate Ndombi fined him Sh100,000 or one year in jail, the maximum penalty for the offence, leaving him the choice between paying the fine or serving time.
