Nairobi, October 14- The Catholic Church in Kenya has unveiled a new brand of altar wine for use during Holy Mass after the previous one became commonly sold in local bars.
The new sacramental wine, simply named Mass Wine, features the coat of arms of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) along with an official signature confirming its authenticity.
According to Archbishop Anthony Muheria of Nyeri, the wine “is not for commercial sale but is imported, owned, and distributed exclusively by the KCCB to dioceses.”
Many Catholics have welcomed the change, saying the former wine had lost its sacred meaning because it was being consumed outside church settings.
During Mass, wine represents the blood of Jesus Christ and is typically consumed by the priest, though on certain occasions, it is also shared with the congregation.
