Nairobi, November 20- Security has been tightened across Nairobi ahead of President William Ruto’s State of the Nation Address, set for Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Parliament.
Security agencies say the heavy presence of GSU and regular police officers is standard procedure for such a major national event, ensuring the city runs smoothly throughout the day. Anti-riot units were spotted patrolling various parts of the CBD to keep everything in order.
At Parliament, officials held final rehearsals as preparations continued for the 2:30 p.m. address. Police also announced that several roads around the area would be closed temporarily, urging motorists to consider alternative routes.
Nairobi police commander George Seda said additional officers have been deployed to boost safety across the city, adding that patrols will also be stepped up as the December festive period approaches.
President Ruto’s address delivered during a special joint sitting of the National Assembly and Senate is a constitutional requirement under Article 132(1)(b), which obligates the Head of State to speak to Parliament at least once every year.
During the session, Ruto is expected to review the government’s progress over the past year, outline upcoming policy priorities, and highlight key achievements. He may focus on themes such as economic reform, national cohesion, security, and infrastructure development.
