Nairobi, November 27- Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson has launched a major restructuring of the county administration, creating six boroughs and reorganizing Sub County and Ward Administrators to improve how services reach residents.

The new system aims to decentralize governance, boost accountability, and make service delivery more efficient. Each borough will now be overseen by a manager responsible for coordinating key county functions within their region, ensuring faster access to essential services.

“Our focus is on cutting delays, improving efficiency, and ensuring Nairobi works for everyone,” Sakaja said.

In the Central Borough covering Starehe, Mathare and Kamukunji Charles Mabonga will take charge, with service centres at City Hall and Shauri Moyo.

The Eastern Borough, which includes Embakasi North, Embakasi West and Embakasi Central, will be led by George Muga, with its service centre based at the Umoja I Sub County office.

For the Western Borough, serving Westlands, Dagoretti North and Dagoretti South, Janet Kimeu has been appointed Borough Manager, and services will be offered from City Park.

The South Eastern Borough Embakasi South, Embakasi East and Makadara will be overseen by John Saruni, with a service centre located at Huduma Centre, Makadara.

The Southern Borough, covering Kibra and Lang’ata, will be under Dabasso Wario, with operations running from Joseph Kangethe Social Hall.

In the Northern Borough, which includes Kasarani, Ruaraka and Roysambu, Serah Gichamba will serve as Borough Manager, with a service hub at Gatharaini Grounds.

Sakaja noted that the changes go beyond a simple reshuffle, describing the model as a strategy to ensure every community feels the presence of an active and accountable county government.

“Each area now has a dedicated leader responsible for local services. This marks a new way of governing Nairobi,” he said.

With the borough system in place, residents are expected to access services more quickly with fewer administrative hurdles.

A borough operates as a district with its own administrative structure, enabling all key county services to be delivered locally.
