Nairobi, January 6- Migori Senator Eddy Oketch has filed a formal petition calling for the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the withdrawal of his parliamentary whip, and possible expulsion from the party. The petition, dated January 5, 2026, was addressed to the party leadership and circulated to the ODM secretariat.

In his complaint, Oketch accuses Sifuna of gross misconduct, indiscipline, and repeatedly violating the ODM constitution as well as the Political Parties Act. He alleges that Sifuna has engaged with rival political parties while serving as ODM’s Secretary General and spokesperson, actions he claims amount to promoting the interests of other parties and could legally be interpreted as a resignation from ODM.

Oketch further claims that Sifuna has openly defied the party’s decision to support the Broad-Based Government arrangement and unlawfully assumed responsibilities reserved for the party leader, particularly in negotiating political coalitions. He also accuses Sifuna of publicly revealing confidential party information, including internal matters related to campaign financing.

The petition calls for Sifuna’s immediate suspension from his duties as Secretary General, removal from all parliamentary leadership and committee roles held under ODM, and the initiation of disciplinary proceedings that could ultimately lead to his expulsion from the party.

In response, ODM’s communications director has stated that there are currently no plans to remove Sifuna, despite the emerging internal disagreements within the party.
