He urged lawmakers to set aside political interests and focus on choosing competent and independent individuals who will uphold the country\u2019s democratic values.<br><br>The Speaker reminded MPs that the Selection Panel had already released a long list of candidates. It was now their duty to ensure that the final appointees maintain Kenya\u2019s electoral integrity and prevent political instability.<br><br>\u201cYou, as MPs, are responsible for selecting the new IEBC team. Please identify individuals who are principled, law-abiding, and committed to the Constitution,\u201d he stated.<br><br>Beyond electoral matters, Wetang\u2019ula reiterated his full support for President William Ruto\u2019s leadership, calling on politicians from all sides to prioritize national unity and development. He cautioned that divisive politics only serves to hinder the country\u2019s progress.<br><br>\u201cWe fully back our President in his efforts to bring people together. In our country, we engage in competitive politics, but when elections are over, we must accept the results and move forward,\u201d he said.<br>Additionally, the Speaker underscored the importance of mentoring young leaders. He shared a personal example of prioritizing an invitation from a young politician, Hon. Kimaiyo, over attending a high-profile event with the President.<br><br>\u201cAs elders, we must uplift the younger generation rather than suppress them. If I had turned down his invitation, I don\u2019t know what he would have said here today,\u201d Wetang\u2019ula remarked, reinforcing the need for inclusivity in leadership.<br><br>Addressing recent political developments, including a meeting between President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, Wetang\u2019ula clarified that strategic decisions within their political camp are made collectively. He emphasized the importance of teamwork in leadership, comparing the decision-making process to that of a well-structured institution.<br><br>\u201cIn our team, the leadership committee is the one that decides on such major issues.
