Nairobi, March 11- The Commission for University Education (CUE) has identified 15 institutions that are offering degree and postgraduate programs without proper accreditation, cautioning students and parents against enrolling in them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a notice published on Tuesday, March 11, in the government newspaper MyGov<\/em>, CUE stated that these institutions are operating illegally and that their degrees will not be recognized in Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commission explained that the flagged universities and colleges lack the required grant of authority, meaning they are not approved to offer degree programs or partner with accredited institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This announcement follows a recent operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and CUE officials, who raided Northwestern Christian University\u2019s graduation ceremony in Mombasa due to its lack of accreditation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 15 institutions named in the notice are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  5. The Africa Talent University \u2013 Kisumu<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Breakthrough Bible College \u2013 Nairobi<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Theophilus Theological College \u2013 Kiambu<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Northwestern Christian University \u2013 Kakamega<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Logos University \u2013 Kakamega<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Harvest Land University \u2013 Kisumu<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Word of Faith Bible College \u2013 Vihiga<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  12. Kenya Anglican University-Kanyuambora \u2013 Embu<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  13. The East African University Bradgate International University \u2013 Nyeri<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  14. Eldoret Bible College \u2013 Uasin Gishu<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  15. Al-Munawwarah College \u2013 Mombasa<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The CUE warned that students enrolled in these institutions risk having their qualifications rejected by both employers and other academic institutions. \u201cAny institution operating as a university or degree-awarding body that does not appear on the Commission\u2019s list of approved institutions is illegal, and their degree qualifications will not be recognised in Kenya,\u201d the notice stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This revelation comes amid growing concerns over unregulated institutions offering substandard education, leading to a surge in cases where graduates struggle to secure employment due to unrecognised qualifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In response to these concerns, the\u00a0CUE has also published a list of accredited universities, urging students and parents to verify an institution\u2019s status before enrolment. Kenya\u2019s top public universities, including the University of Nairobi, Moi University, Kenyatta University, Egerton University, and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), remain fully accredited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Among private universities, institutions such as Daystar University, Strathmore University, Mount Kenya University, and the United States International University (USIU-Africa) have been cleared as recognised institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The CUE has advised students and employers to consult its official website for the most up-to-date information on accredited universities.
