Nairobi, July 16- Former Chief Justice David Maraga has criticised Parliament for failing to initiate impeachment proceedings against President William Ruto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on July 15, 2025, Maraga argued that with growing public pressure for Ruto\u2019s removal before the 2027 elections, Parliament should have already begun the impeachment process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maraga, who plans to challenge Ruto in the next election, accused lawmakers of being controlled by the President, saying this was why no action had been taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cParliament has the power to impeach the President. He has violated numerous sections of the Constitution,\u201d Maraga said, adding, \u201cIf Parliament did its job, Ruto wouldn\u2019t be in office today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He insisted the only legal ways for Ruto to leave office before his term ends are through resignation or impeachment, urging MPs to act if the President refuses to step down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
