Nairobi, september 8- Former Sports Principal Secretary Peter Kirimi Kaberia has been released on a Sh3 million bond or Sh1 million cash bail after being charged over the alleged misappropriation of Sh330 million meant for Kenya\u2019s preparations to host the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kaberia and five other suspects appeared before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday and denied the charges. The court granted similar bond terms to former senior government officials Stephen Njoroge Muthuma, Enock Onditi and John Kiende Ruga, as well as company director Anthony Mwangi Kimanthi and Lease Pride Limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three other accused persons were granted a Sh2 million bond or Sh600,000 cash bail. All the suspects were ordered to surrender their passports within seven days, with the case scheduled for mention on September 15, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The accused face charges including abuse of office, unlawful acquisition of public property, failure to comply with procurement laws, financial misconduct and acquisition of proceeds of crime. Some also face conspiracy to commit an economic crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case follows investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission into a Sh1.5 billion contract awarded in 2017 for the supply and installation of stadium security, audio-visual and lighting equipment ahead of CHAN.
