Nairobi, September 17- Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has been found guilty of contempt of court over roadblocks and barricades erected in Nairobi during the June 25 protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
High Court Justice Patricia Nyaundi ruled that Kanja failed to ensure police complied with an earlier order requiring public notification before installing barricades during demonstrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is scheduled to appear in court on September 22, 2026, for mitigation and sentencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The contempt case was filed by the Katiba Institute, which accused police of blocking major roads and restricting access to the CBD without the required notice. Police disputed Kanja\u2019s personal liability, arguing that the restrictions were not part of a centrally coordinated plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
