Nairobi, October 6- Kenya has confirmed its first case of Ebola after a Kenyan national who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) travelled to Nairobi on Saturday.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the patient has since died, while 28 people who came into contact with the deceased, including family members and healthcare workers, have been identified and are being monitored.

The case comes amid a major Ebola outbreak in the DRC, where the Bundibugyo strain has caused more than 8,000 confirmed cases and over 4,000 deaths.

The outbreak, which was declared in May, has also spread to Uganda, which recorded 20 cases and two deaths before being declared Ebola-free in August.

Ebola is transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people, including those who have died. Symptoms can include fever, vomiting and diarrhoea, with severe cases potentially resulting in internal and external bleeding.
