Nairobi, Kenya, November 15- Evance Michori, a suspect who confessed to involvement in multiple murders of women in Nakuru, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison after agreeing to serve as a state witness. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that Michori was sentenced for being an accessory after the fact in the murders.
Michori is one of six suspects implicated in the killings in Nakuru’s Mawanga area in Bahati Sub-County. He will now testify against his co-defendants in the ongoing case. “The murders, which took place on June 21, 2022, led to a major investigation that resulted in six arrests. On August 2, 2022, the six suspects faced charges for four counts of murder in the Nakuru High Court,” the DCI stated.
During interrogations, Michori admitted to his role as a member of the Confirm Gang, a group responsible for these violent crimes in Nakuru. He confessed that the gang had robbed four women and then left them to die in burning homes. His confession was supported by forensic evidence collected by the investigative team. After presenting this evidence, Michori’s legal team arranged a plea bargain with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
The Nakuru court approved the plea deal on November 14, 2024, leading to Michori’s sentencing. In the forthcoming trial, he will act as a key prosecution witness, offering testimony against the other five suspects.
