Nairobi, March 20-The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended Super Metro Limited’s operating license, effective March 20, 2025, to ensure the company complies with road safety regulations.
In a statement, NTSA emphasized that the suspension will remain in place until Super Metro meets all requirements outlined in the Public Service Vehicles Regulations, 2014, and other safety conditions. The decision aims to protect passengers and other road users by enforcing compliance with safety standards.
The authority cited multiple violations, including expired inspection and road service licenses, outdated speed limiter certificates, and missing speed limiter records. Additionally, some drivers reportedly lacked the necessary qualifications, breaching public service vehicle operation regulations.
To regain its license, Super Metro must meet several conditions, including submitting 294 vehicles for compliance checks at Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre and ensuring 42 drivers, identified for speed violations, undergo a retest. NTSA also revealed that 64 drivers failed a retest on March 10, leading to the suspension of their licenses.
Further requirements include dismissing unqualified drivers, presenting signed contracts for all drivers and staff, and conducting road safety training for all drivers. NTSA officers will oversee the training and conduct a compliance audit before considering the reinstatement of Super Metro’s license.
