Nairobi, July 3- Football fans around the world are mourning the tragic death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash in Spain alongside his brother, Andre Silva. The accident occurred on the A52 near Palacios de Sanabria, just 10 days after Jota married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso.
Authorities say the 28-year-old was driving a Lamborghini with his 26-year-old brother, who played for Portuguese second-tier club Penafiel, when the car veered off the road and caught fire. Police suspect a tire burst caused the crash.
Jota, a father of three, had recently shared joyful photos from his wedding day, posing with his wife and their children Dinis, Duarte, and a daughter born in 2024.
He joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolves in a £41 million transfer and earned nearly 50 caps for Portugal. In a statement, the Portuguese national team expressed devastation, calling Jota “an extraordinary person” loved by teammates and opponents alike.
The football world has been left reeling by the loss of a player who combined talent on the pitch with humility and warmth off it.
