Nairobi, November 6-Tanzanian music star Alikiba has issued a public apology after coming under fire from fans who accused him and other artists of supporting President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s disputed re-election.

Alikiba, 38, shared a message on Instagram asking for forgiveness, saying he did not intend to offend anyone.

The backlash began after the October 29 election, where President Samia was declared the winner with 97.66% of the vote, a result heavily criticized by opposition groups and observers. Fans then launched a mass unfollow campaign against celebrities who performed or appeared at CCM campaign events.

Alikiba became a central target after performing at the president’s final rally in Mwanza. The protest has gone beyond social media, with properties linked to artists like Billnas, Shilole, and Juma Jux being vandalized or set on fire.

The incident has shaken Tanzania’s entertainment industry, pushing several artists into damage control, with Alikiba’s apology being the most direct response so far.
