Nairobi, September 15- Nairobi has been selected to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, beating bids from London, Rome and Munich in a competitive selection process. The decision was announced by World Athletics President Sebastian Coe following a council meeting in Budapest.
The 2029 championships will mark the first time Africa hosts the senior World Athletics Championships, giving Kenya an opportunity to showcase its strong athletics heritage on the global stage. Nairobi has previously hosted major World Athletics events, including the 2017 World U18 Championships and the 2021 World U20 Championships.
Munich, Germany, was selected to host the 2031 edition, while Beijing will stage the 2027 championships.
