Nairobi, October 13- Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Catherine Omanyo has assured Kenyans that party leader Oburu Oginga is recovering well and is expected to be discharged from hospital either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Speaking on Tuesday, October 13, Omanyo dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the veteran politician had died, accusing some online users of spreading unverified information to attract attention and increase engagement.

Omanyo maintained that Oburu was in stable condition and preparing to return home after receiving medical attention.

She noted that illness could affect anyone at any time, adding that Oburu’s position as ODM leader had made his health a subject of heightened public interest.

The party official also urged social media users to exercise responsibility when discussing the health of public figures, warning against spreading unconfirmed reports, particularly claims of death.

Oburu’s health has attracted public attention in recent days following his hospitalisation and absence from the commissioning ceremony of the mausoleum of his late younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in Bondo, Siaya County.

The Siaya Senator assumed leadership of ODM following Raila’s death in October 2025, placing him at the centre of the party’s leadership and political future ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The nature of Oburu’s illness has not been publicly disclosed. However, Omanyo said he was recovering and expected to leave hospital soon.
