Nairobi, Kenya, October 8- British golfer John Middleton, who was found murdered in his Mombasa home on Sunday, is now the subject of an intense police investigation. His body was discovered in a bathtub with clear signs of a violent attack, and a machete, believed to be the murder weapon, was found at the scene.

The grisly discovery was made by a cleaner during her routine visit, who immediately alerted authorities. Kisauni Deputy County Commissioner Jamleck Mbuba described the case as perplexing, noting there were no signs of a struggle or theft, ruling out robbery as a motive.

Middleton, affectionately known as “Fishbone” by his friends, had lived alone for over 15 years but was an active member of the Nyali Golf & Country Club, where fellow golfers remembered him fondly. Neighbors had expressed concern in the days leading up to his death, having noticed suspicious individuals seemingly following Middleton. They had advised him to improve his home security, but he dismissed the idea, trusting his car alarm for protection.

On the night of the murder, Middleton’s usually alert dogs did not bark, raising suspicions that the animals may have been poisoned.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward, as they continue investigating the crime. Middleton lived a solitary life, with no close family ties, though he occasionally received visits from different women.
