Nairobi, Kenya, October 29- Teaching in public universities nationwide has come to a halt after lecturers began a strike on Tuesday. The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) announced that the strike would continue until the government meets the terms outlined in the 2012-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga urged the government to fulfill the agreed-upon return-to-work formula, which includes various benefits to support lecturers’ welfare. The lecturers have pledged not to resume teaching until they receive the compensation owed to them.

The lecturers pointed fingers at vice-chancellors, whom they accuse of repeatedly obstructing their efforts to improve pay. Wasonga emphasized that no lecturer would be stepping into classrooms to teach until their demands are met.
