Nairobi, Kenya, November 8-A major suspect in the abduction and assault of blogger Bruce John Khajira, also known as Chawa-001, was arrested at the Lunga Lunga border while attempting to escape to Tanzania. The suspect, identified as Omar Ali Mohamed, also called Nyanya, had been evading capture since his involvement in the incident on September 12.

His arrest followed an intensive operation led by dedicated detectives and Immigration officials, who had been monitoring the plans of those involved to leave the country. Investigations revealed Mohamed’s presence at key locations related to the crime, along with consistent communication with other suspects around the time of the incident.

Key forensic findings, including digital evidence from the DCI’s Digital Forensics Lab, traced a grey Nissan Note with registration KDQ 394C, which was allegedly hired by Mohamed on August 20 and returned the night of the assault. This vehicle is believed to have been used to transport the victim from his home to a construction site in Bonje, where he was assaulted, before he was abandoned in Mwakirunge. The car has since been impounded.

Authorities have identified several accomplices and called upon them to turn themselves in. Four suspects — Abdul Athman, Violet Adera, Esther Muthoni, and Haji Babu — have been charged at Shanzu Law Courts in connection with the blogger’s abduction and assault. The charges include conspiracy to commit a felony, abduction, gang rape, and assault.

The blogger claims that he was abducted by a group of around 20 county officials at his home in Bamburi, taken to Miritini, assaulted, and subsequently abandoned near Mwakirunge. He alleges his assailants broke into his home, demanding he accompany them to apologize for criticizing the Mombasa County Government.
