Nairobi, February 4- Kenya Airways has defended an employee involved in a heated confrontation with a Nigerian passenger over boarding requirements.
The airline clarified that the traveler, who was flying from Lagos to Manchester via Nairobi, was denied boarding for her connecting flight because she did not have a Schengen visa, which is mandatory for entry into any EU country.
According to Kenya Airways, the passenger arrived in Nairobi intending to board a flight to Paris but was informed that she lacked the necessary visa. To assist her, the airline offered an alternative route through London, which would have allowed her to reach Manchester. However, she declined the option.
Kenya Airways also noted that the viral video circulating on social media does not provide the full context of the incident.
After being denied boarding, the passenger requested accommodation, but the airline stated that it does not cover lodging costs in cases where travelers fail to meet visa requirements, as ensuring proper documentation is the passenger’s responsibility.
The situation escalated when the passenger threw three used sanitary pads at airline staff.
Kenya Airways condemned her actions, stressing that such behavior is unacceptable. The airline reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality service but emphasized that all interactions must be based on mutual respect. They asserted that their employees have the right to work in a safe and dignified environment, free from abuse.
The matter has been reported to the relevant security authorities, and an investigation is ongoing.
