Nairobi, February 11- Senior Economic Advisor Moses Kuria has condemned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for allegedly planning to lead protests if Chief Justice Martha Koome is removed from office.

On Monday evening, the former Public Service Cabinet Secretary accused Gachagua of pushing a selfish political agenda by encouraging demonstrations in the Mt Kenya region while other parts of the country focused on development.

Kuria stated that while he supports people pursuing their political objectives, he finds it unacceptable to urge Mt Kenya youths to protest and risk their lives while other regions advance their interests.

“I have no problem with anyone advancing their legitimate political goals. But telling young men from my region to come to the streets and get shot dead while other regions are pursuing an agenda is very selfish,” he wrote on X.

He further challenged Gachagua to participate in protests alongside his own children before asking other Mt Kenya residents to take to the streets.

Kuria’s remarks followed Gachagua’s announcement that he would lead mass demonstrations if Chief Justice Koome is ousted or arrested.

During a radio interview on Sunday, February 9, Gachagua vowed not to allow CJ Koome to be forced out of office the way he was impeached. He insisted that Mt Kenya leaders would not remain silent if the government targeted officials from the region.

According to Gachagua, President William Ruto’s administration is orchestrating a plan to weaken the Supreme Court ahead of the 2027 elections.

“They want to remove Martha Koome the same way they removed me. We will not stay silent. If they oust her, we will take to the streets and block roads,” he declared.

He also claimed that the government was behind the numerous petitions filed in the Supreme Court, aiming to install a judiciary that aligns with its interests.

Gachagua added that young people from his region had approached him, expressing regret for not protesting during his impeachment.
