Nairobi, February 13 – Former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been sentenced to 12 year in prison or pay Ksh. 52.5 million. 

In a ruling delivered at the Milimani Law Courts, Waititu was convicted of conflict of interest and barred from holding any public office for 10 years. Additionally, he is prohibited from contesting for any political seat for the next seven years.

His wife, Susan Ndung’u, who was charged alongside him, received a one-year jail term or an alternative fine of Ksh.500,000.

The court also sentenced their co-accused, Charles Chege, the director of Testimony Enterprises Limited, to nine years in prison or a fine of Ksh.295 million.

Beth Wangeci, the second director at Testimony Enterprises Limited has also been fined Ksh.1 million or serve one year behind bars.

Lucas Wahinya, the road engineer, is required to deposit a fine of Sh21m in default, spend seven years in prison.

While the court found Waititu and his co-accused guilty of graft-related charges, they were acquitted on three counts of money laundering.

Waititu and his co-accused were charged with fraud, conflict of interest, dealing with suspect property, money laundering, and abuse of office, arising from the alleged fraudulent award of tenders to a company owned by the Waititu family.
