Nairobi, April 1- The tensions between former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto show no signs of easing, with Gachagua launching a blistering attack on the Head of State through his X account.
In a veiled but pointed remark, Gachagua labeled Ruto a “pathological liar” after the president suggested in a recent interview that his removal was due to self-serving interests, ineffective leadership, and difficulties in working with other officials.
“I am now more convinced than ever that pathological lying is a mental disorder,” Gachagua posted.
“The biggest threat to our nation is the unchecked deception being fed to Kenyans, coupled with a leader’s inability to align his team’s falsehoods. I mourn for my country,” he added.
His comments came after Ruto’s televised interview on vernacular stations ahead of his Mt Kenya tour, during which he defended his decision to sideline Gachagua.
Ruto claimed that his former deputy had demanded Ksh.10 billion in exchange for political mobilization in the Mt Kenya region—an ultimatum he refused.
“I was told, ‘Give me Ksh.10 billion to organize the region, or you’ll be a one-term president.’ I declined. If serving only one term is my destiny, so be it,” Ruto stated.
Despite the political friction, Ruto dismissed concerns over tensions ahead of his visit, which begins today, emphasizing that his focus is on delivering progress updates to voters.
“I was elected by Kenyans, including those in Central Kenya. Starting tomorrow, the people will judge for themselves whether I have honored my promises,” he said.
