Nairobi, July 23- Dishi na County, a school feeding program by the Nairobi City Council Government has marked a milestone by serving it’s 50,000,000th meal underscoring the administration’s committment to child nutrition and access to education.
Governor Sakaja hailed the program as one the most impactful social intervention under his leadership emphasising that since it’s launch, the number of learners enrolling in schools has doubled and improved academic perfomance.
“This program has proven that feeding a child is feeding their future. I thank the dedicated team behind this success they’ve helped keep hundreds of thousands of children in school,” he added.
Suzanne Silantoi, Nairobi County Health and Nutrition CEC reverberated Sakaja’s words commending the team behind the initiative ensuring the meals are provided.
The county now plans to expand the program to informal schools as it cements its place as a model for social investment in education. Currently, the program has 17 central kitchens one in each of the county’s 17 constituencies that prepare food for the learners.
