Nairobi, August 19- A mombasa football coach is at the centre of a disturbing court case after being accused of sexually abusing a 12 year old boy he trained

Mbarak Swaleh, popularly known as “coaches”, was arraigned before Senior Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo on Monday, August 18, where he denied charges of defilement and committing an indecent act with a child.

The offences are said to have taken place repeatedly between January 2025 and mid-August during training sessions at the Fort Jesus football field in Mvita Sub-county. According to the prosecution, Swaleh allegedly lured the Grade six pupil into a storeroom under the appearance of collecting equipment, where he subjected him to sexual assault.

Investigators told the court that the suspect convinced the minor to use a substance he called “power shot oil,” claiming it would improve his performance on the pitch, before escalating the abuse.

The ordeal came to light on August 16 when the child confided in his mother. The boy later repeated the allegations in front of other coaches, prompting his family to report the matter to police. A medical report is said to have corroborated the claims of abuse.

Swaleh was freed on a KSh500,000 bond with a surety of the same amount and ordered to provide two contact persons to ensure he attends trial. The case is scheduled for mention on September 8, 2025.

The incident has raised concern among parents and guardians over the safety of children in community sports programs, highlighting the need for stricter safeguards and closer monitoring of coaches entrusted with young players.
