Nairobi, November 3- Heavy rains have triggered a deadly landslide in Chesongoch, Elgeyo Marakwet County, western Kenya, leaving at least 26 people dead and 25 others missing.
The landslide struck after days of intense rainfall that have devastated the region, sweeping away homes and blocking access roads.
Rescue operations have been hampered by flash floods and treacherous terrain, as emergency teams and local residents continue to search through the debris for survivors.
The Kenya Red Cross and county authorities have deployed helicopters to airlift victims and deliver relief supplies to marooned families. Over 1,000 homes have been destroyed, displacing hundreds of people who are now being sheltered in schools and churches.
Officials have urged residents living in high-risk areas to move to safer ground as the rains persist and the risk of further landslides remains high. The government has assured continued support to affected families, emphasizing that rescue and relief efforts will continue until all the missing persons are accounted for.
