Nairobi, November 11- The country is mourning the loss of renowned gospel singer Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, widely known by her stage name Betty Bayo.
She passed away on Monday afternoon while undergoing treatment. The musician had been battling leukemia, a form of blood cancer.
Messages of sympathy have flowed in from leaders across the country, recognising her impact on Kenya’s gospel music scene.
President William Ruto led in paying tribute, describing her as an exceptional artist whose songs carried powerful messages of encouragement and faith. He highlighted her hit song “11th Hour”, calling it a moving anthem about God’s timely intervention.
“Her message was always clear: no matter the challenge or the timing, never give up,” the President said. He noted that although her voice is now silent, her ministry continues through the lives she encouraged and inspired.
President Ruto added that for more than fifteen years, Betty Bayo’s music uplifted people facing personal struggles, offering comfort and strength through faith.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also shared his condolences, describing her death as deeply painful for the nation.
He praised her musical talent as well as her charitable work, noting that her lyrics and community efforts touched many lives and brought hope to countless listeners.
