Nairobi, February 9- President Donald Trump, who did not attend the Super Bowl and instead watched from a gathering in Florida, strongly condemned Bad Bunny’s halftime show, calling it “a slap in the face” and claiming viewers could not understand the Puerto Rican artist’s lyrics.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump described the halftime show as one of the worst ever, saying it lacked meaning and failed to reflect what he called America’s values of success, creativity, and excellence. He argued that the performance did not match the country’s achievements and progress.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, headlined the halftime show on Sunday with a set featuring some of his most popular tracks, striking visuals, and dramatic references to themes and symbols from his Spanish-language music catalog. The show also included guest appearances by major stars such as Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.
During the performance, the singer shared a message of unity, broadening the phrase “God bless America” to refer to the entire American continent, mentioning countries from Canada to Chile. He named more than 20 nations across North and South America while their flags appeared on screen, and stood next to both the US and Puerto Rican flags.
He also showcased a football printed with the words “Together we are America.”
Trump further criticized the show’s language and dance routines, saying the lyrics were incomprehensible and describing the choreography as inappropriate, especially for children watching in the US and worldwide. His reaction was consistent with earlier remarks in which he had already labeled Bad Bunny a poor choice for the halftime performance.
