NAIROBI, Kenya, September 14, 2026 – The High Court has issued interim orders preventing the Standard Group from repeating or circulating allegations linking President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, to the procurement of uniforms for the Kenya Police Service.
The orders follow a legal application filed by Charlene challenging a Standard publication dated August 30, 2026. The report, which appeared on the newspaper’s front page and page six, allegedly connected her to a Sh2.8 billion police uniform tender.
Through her lawyers, Charlene argued that the publication created the impression that she had participated in, supplied under or benefited from the procurement deal.
She further told the court that the National Police Service had clarified that Nalitex Limited, the company mentioned in the reports, did not participate in the tender, was not awarded the contract, and did not receive any purchase order or payment.
According to the police, the contract was awarded to Bedi Investments Limited.
Charlene also said she had issued the Standard Group with a demand and right-of-reply notice seeking a correction, retraction and apology. However, she argued that the disputed content remained accessible online and could continue to be shared.
The court granted an interim order restraining the Standard Group from further disseminating the contested allegations pending further directions. The respondents have been given seven days to respond to the application.
The case will be mentioned on October 19, 2026. The interim orders do not constitute a final determination of the underlying dispute.
