Nairobi, October 1- President William Ruto has expressed his condolences following the death of Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who died in a helicopter crash alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, and other passengers in Zimbabwe.
Ruto described Chivayo as a close friend and said he would remember him for his warmth, energy and strong belief in Africa’s potential.
The President extended his sympathies to the families of those who died, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwean authorities said six people were aboard the helicopter when it crashed at around 5pm. Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana said there were no survivors, adding that the aircraft was carrying a prominent businessman, three other passengers and two pilots.
Police confirmed the incident and said further details would be released as investigations into the crash continue.
Chivayo, 42, was a prominent Zimbabwean businessman who was widely known for his lavish lifestyle and links to President Mnangagwa and the ruling ZANU-PF party.
