Nairobi, October 8- Construction of the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret is nearing 80 per cent completion, but a shortage of workers has slowed progress ahead of Mashujaa Day celebrations.

Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Edisson Nyale said contractors have been forced to source additional workers from other parts of the country to speed up construction.

The stadium is expected to host this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 20, with about 15,000 people expected to attend the event.

Nyale said construction work is continuing around the clock as contractors race to complete the remaining works before the national celebrations.

He also urged skilled workers, including painters, to take advantage of available opportunities at construction sites in Eldoret.

Security preparations have also been intensified in the city, with authorities expecting a large number of visitors and delegations during the celebrations.

President William Ruto is expected to preside over the Mashujaa Day celebrations at the stadium.
